The Role of the Church
Followers of the Old Man tend to be soldiers. Priests must be educated in military history, tactics, and the basic use of arms. A formal conflict such as a war is begun with a ceremony lead by a member of the Order of the Pike, though the details of the ceremony vary by region. Some cultures perform a ceremony before and after a war, with a priest of the Old Man and a Peacemaker present at both ceremonies, to represent the cycle of war and peace. Members of the temple are also required to send word to the main temple of any unofficial conflict of sufficient size to be recorded by temple historians.
